
Julia is a fourth year student taking a year off to complete an MPH in epidemiology and biostatistics. Prior to medical school, she performed neurovirulence research on pre- and postnatal exposures of mumps, measles, and borna disease virus at the FDA. In the past, she has done research in pediatric ICU patient safety, working with the Health Quality and Safety Research Group, and is in the process of publishing a paper and a book chapter on the interactions between mental illness and HIV/AIDS with Dr. Glenn Treisman. With her current advisor, Gail Daumit, they are studying adverse events in non-psychiatric hospitalizations for patients with and without severe mental illness on Maryland Medicaid programs. Her public health interests lie in health policy, health care systems administrations, and behavior change interventions. She is also active as a national leader in the American Medical Student Association and is the editor of the 6th edition of First Aid for the USMLE Step 2 CK.
