Pharmacy Practice

Lisa Bendz, Pharm.D.

Lisa Bendz

Dr. Bendz grew up in North Haven, Connecticut.  She graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts in Molecular and Cell Biology in 2000.  Prior to initiating her pharmacy education, she taught eighth grade physical science in East Los Angeles and investigated genetic causes and susceptibility to neural tube birth defects at Duke University’s Center for Human Genetics.  She earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2007.  Lisa plans to complete an Oncology Specialty Residency in pursuit of a career in oncology pharmacy which combines her interests in clinical practice, research, and teaching.  Currently, she is investigating risk assessment and antibiotic management of outpatient febrile neutropenic cancer patients.  Lisa enjoys traveling abroad, camping, hiking, swimming, skiing, and wine-tasting.   She is grateful for the support from her mother, brother, extended family, friends, and mentors.  Lisa is also thankful for the constant inspiration from her husband, Christopher.

Leigh Boehmer, Pharm.D.

Leigh Boehmer

Dr. Boehmer is originally from Mason City, Iowa.  He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy with a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree in May of 2007.  His professional interests are in the fields of medication safety and oncology, and he plans on pursuing a medication safety specialty residency following the completion of his pharmacy practice residency.  Dr. Boehmer’s residency project involves the use of competency assessments in pharmacy practice.  In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, playing piano, and spending time with his partner Adam, family, and friends.

Kathryn Connor, Pharm.D.

Kathryn Connor

Dr. Kathryn Connor is from Livonia, Michigan and graduated with her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Wayne State University in May, 2007.  Her professional interests include critical care, surgical services, cardiology, emergency medicine and academia.  Her research project involves determining optimal glycemic control practices for pancreatectomy patients in surgical intensive care.  Kathryn is enjoying her PGY-1 residency and plans to pursue a PGY-2 residency in Critical Care and develop a career with an emphasis on education and research.  She remains grateful for the guidance and dedication of her exceptional professors, preceptors and mentors who continue to be an inspiration, and recognizes that she would not have this opportunity without their expertise and efforts on her behalf.  Kathryn also thanks her loved ones for their unwavering confidence  and constant support, and for helping her follow her dreams.  She wishes her former classmates the best and hopes everyone will keep in touch!  She is also looking forward to working with the current pharmacy students in the near future.  When she’ s not working, Kathryn enjoys spending time with friends and family, reading, listening to music, ice skating and playing tennis.

Alice Jenh, Pharm.D.

Alice Jenh

Dr. Jenh is originally from Columbus, Ohio, but considers Annandale, New Jersey as her home. She graduated from the Rutgers University Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy with a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree in May of 2007. Dr. Jenh’s professional interests include infectious diseases and pediatrics and she plans to pursue an infectious diseases specialty residency following the completion of her pharmacy practice residency. Dr. Jenh’s residency research project involves examining the appropriateness of empiric antibiotic therapy for the treatment of bacteremia due to gram-positive cocci in pairs/chains. Dr. Jenh is grateful for the support and encouragement from her family, friends, and preceptors. In her spare time, she enjoys snowboarding, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends.

Angela Martinez, Pharm.D.

Angela Martinez

Dr. Martinez is originally from Detroit, MI. She earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy from Wayne State University in 2007. Her professional interests are in pediatrics, emergency medicine, and critical care. Dr. Martinez plans on pursuing a PGY2 pediatric specialty residency. Her residency project involves assessing current empiric amikacin dosing guidelines in adolescent oncology patients. Dr. Martinez is grateful for her wonderful family and friends who are always there for her. She is especially grateful to her father, brother, and sister whose love and support have guided her through the years.  In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, shopping, playing tennis, and working on her golf game.

Danielle Tobin, Pharm.D.

Danielle Tobin

Dr. Tobin is originally from West Grove, Pennsylvania.  She earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh in May 2007.  Danielle’s professional interests include oncology, pain management, and infectious diseases.  Dr. Tobin plans to complete an oncology specialty residency next year that will focus in these areas.  She intends to pursue a career path that allows for clinical practice with research and teaching opportunities.  Her current research involves evaluating the use of antiemetic regimens in the oncology outpatient population.  Danielle enjoys skiing, shopping, and spending time with her family and friends.

 Ambulatory Care

Grace N. Kuweruza, Pharm.D.

Grace Kuweruza

Dr. Kuweruza is originally from Malawi, South East Africa.  She graduated from the University of Central Missouri with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2000.  In 2006, she completed her Doctorate of Pharmacy at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Dr. Kuweruza completed her PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Veterans Administration, Buffalo, New York and is currently an Ambulatory Care Specialty Resident.  She plans to become an Ambulatory Care Clinical Specialist.  Her desire is to travel overseas with other health care providers to provide pharmaceutical care to patients.  Her residency project involves evaluation of adherence to consensus recommendations for cholesterol, hypertension, and diabetes management in the schizophrenic population.  Dr. Kuweruza is grateful to her Creator, family, friends and mentors and recognizes that without them she wouldn’t be here today. She enjoys exercising, listening to inspiration teachings, traveling, mission work, and talking on the phone with family and friends.

Critical Care


Jason Makii, Pharm.D.

Jason Makii

Dr. Makii was born in Baltimore, but claims the Buckeye state of Ohio as his home.  He graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in May 2002 with a Bachelor of Science and Arts in Zoology.  He then went on to Columbus, Ohio and The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy where he graduated in June 2006 with his Doctorate of Pharmacy.  Dr. Makii completed his PGY-1 pharmacy practice residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, and is currently completing his PGY-2 specialty residency in critical Care.  His residency project involves looking at the incidence of ventriculostomy related infections in the Neurosciences Critical Care Unit at Johns Hopkins.  Following completion of his residency, Dr. Makii plans to pursue a career as a Critical Care Specialist, preceptor of students/residents, and to be involved in clinical research.  In his spare time, he enjoys golfing, soccer, skiing, traveling and hanging out with friends.  On Saturdays in the fall, he can usually be found watching college football, or traveling back to “ The Shoe” for Ohio State football games.  Go BUCKEYES!!!

Jeannette Ploetz, Pharm.D.

Jeannette Ploetz

Dr. Ploetz was born in Augusta, Georgia, but considers the Kansas City area her home. She graduated from the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy with a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree in May of 2006. She completed her Pharmacy Practice Residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, and is currently completing her specialty residency in critical care.  Dr. Ploetz's residency project involves determining the indications for propofol initiation in the Medical Intensive Care Unit and whether newly initiated propofol guidelines facilitate desired patient outcomes of earlier ventilator weaning, physical therapy, etc. Upon completion of her residency, Jeannette looks forward to combining her clinical practice with her interest in teaching and mentoring pharmacy students and residents. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, medical missions, reading, and spending time with friends and family.

Infectious Diseases

Amanda Colquitt

Amanda Colquitt

Dr. Colquitt is originally from Lynchburg, Virginia. She graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition in 2000. In 2006, she completed her Doctorate of Pharmacy at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. Dr. Colquitt completed her Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and is currently the Infectious Diseases Specialty Resident. Her practice interests include antimicrobial stewardship and resistance and infections in solid organ transplant patients. Dr. Colquitt intends to develop a career which incorporates clinical practice with research and teaching opportunities and plans to complete the Educational Theory and Practice course through the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. Her current research involves the selection and duration of antibiotics among inpatients diagnosed with community-acquired pneumonia. Dr. Colquitt is grateful for the support of her family and friends and recognizes that without them, she would not be where she is today. In her free time, she enjoys running (more walking lately), listening to live music, enjoying the company of family and friends, fine wines, and spending time with her feet in the sand.

Oncology Care

Joshua Howell, Pharm.D.

Joshua Howell

Dr. Howell is originally from Mt. Vernon, Missouri. He graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City with a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree in January of 2006.  Dr. Howell completed his PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Hopkins and is currently a PGY-2 Oncology Pharmacy Resident.  His professional interests are in the fields of oncology, infectious diseases and critical care.  He plans on pursuing a position as an Oncology Clinical Specialist within a health-system upon completing this year.  His residency project involves investigating adherence of intensive insulin drip therapy in oncology patients.  Dr. Howell is the Chair of the Residency On-call Committee, actively involved in the ASHP New Practitioner Forum Executive Committee and HOPA Publication Committee.   In his spare time, he enjoys kayaking, biking and spending time with his wife, Meredith and dog, Sadie.

Mallika P. Patel, Pharm.D.

Mallika Patel

Dr. Patel is originally from Lexington, Kentucky.  She graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree in May of 2006.  She completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  She is currently completing a PGY2 Oncology Specialty Residency and her other practice areas of interest include infectious diseases and critical care.  Dr. Patel’s research project will evaluate diagnosis and treatment of adrenal insufficiency in septic oncology patients.  Upon completion of the residency, she plans on pursuing a position with clinical responsibilities at an academic medical institution with opportunities to teach.  In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and watching college basketball.  Go Wildcats!

Palliative Care

Pamela S. Moore, Pharm.D.

Pamela Moore

Dr. Moore is originally from Lisbon, Ohio.  She graduated from Ohio Northern University with a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree in 2002.  She practiced as a hospital clinical staff pharmacist for several years before pursuing residency training, completing her Pharmacy Practice Residency at Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio in June of 2007.  Aside from pain management and palliative care, her other practice interests include medication safety and education.  Upon completion of her specialty residency training, she plans to continue her career with Hospice, incorporating pharmacy student and resident education in end-of-life care.  In her spare time she enjoys reading, movies, music and travel.  Dr. Moore thanks her family and mentors for their continued support and encouragement of her evolving career.

Pediatrics

Lisa A. Maher, Pharm.D.

Lisa Maher

Dr. Maher is originally from Oceanport, New Jersey. She graduated from Rutgers University’s Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy with a Doctorate of Pharmacy in May 2006. She completed a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Penn State Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania and is currently completing her PGY-2 Pediatric Specialty Residency. Her professional interests include pediatric critical care, pediatric oncology, and neonatal critical care. Dr. Maher plans to pursue a career in academia while practicing as a pediatric clinical specialist in a teaching institution. Her residency project involves characterizing the frequency and susceptibilities of extended-spectrum beta lactamase-producing gram-negative bacteria urine isolates in a hospitalized pediatric population, as well as identifying patient risk factors for such infections. She is an active member of the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group. In her spare time, Dr. Maher enjoys reading, running, watching football, and spending time with her wonderful, supportive family and friends.

Pharmacotherapy

Carolyn Plakosh, Pharm.D.

Carolyn PlakoshOriginally from Baltimore, Maryland, Carolyn Plakosh graduated in 2001 with a B.S. in Biology from James Madison University in Virginia. Post graduation, and after a short stint as a Microbiologist in Baltimore, she furthered her education at the School of Pharmacy at University of Maryland, earning her Doctorate of Pharmacy in the spring of 2006. She is currently in the second year of a two year Pharmacotherapy Residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. In addition to many and diverse aspects of acute care, Dr. Plakosh is also interested in ambulatory care, teaching and outcomes research. The goal of her research project is to determine appropriate doses of vancomycin in obese patients based on trough levels. After completion of her residency program she hopes to attain her Board Certification in Pharmacotherapy and practice in a teaching hospital as an Internal Medicine pharmacy specialist. In addition, she hopes to work regularly in a clinic and/or teach pharmacy students. In her free time Carolyn enjoys spending time with friends and family, any athletic or outdoor activity, learning to cook, gardening, and playing with her dog, Tela.

Practice Management

Mary Andrawis, Pharm.D., M.P.H. Candidate

Mary Andrawis

Dr. Andrawis is our South Dakotan, born and raised in the Mount Rushmore state.  She is a proud Jackrabbit graduate of South Dakota State University’s College of Pharmacy, receiving her Doctorate of Pharmacy in 2006. During her two-year practice management residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital, she is concurrently pursuing a Masters of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.  Dr. Andrawis’ professional interests include health policy, emergency preparedness, health disparities, and medication access.  Her residency project describes the drug-related problems resolved through pilot Medication Therapy Management Services.  When the financial funds present themselves, Mary loves to travel, especially to other countries, and also enjoys mission work. She hopes to someday attend a World Cup game with her brothers.

Jennifer Kacmarcik, Pharm.D.

Jennifer Kacmarcik

Dr. Kacmarcik is originally from Wilmington, North Carolina.  She graduated from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry in 2003.  In 2007, she earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina School of Pharmacy in Chapel Hill.  While completing her two-year Practice Management Residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, she is concurrently finishing course work toward a Masters of Business Administration in Medical Services Management from the Carey School of Business at Johns Hopkins University.  Her residency project involves assessing the use of inhaled epoprostenol in persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn .  Jennifer would like to recognize her father, mother, brother, extended family, and mentors who have helped her become the person and practitioner she is today.  In her free time , Jennifer enjoys water skiing, golfing, rollerblading, and traveling to the beach.  On Saturdays in the fall, she can usually be found watching college football.  Go Hokies!!!

Morgan Roberts, Pharm.D.

Morgan Roberts

Dr. Roberts has come back home to Baltimore, Maryland, to advance her pharmacy education and training.  She graduated from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 2002.  In 2007, she earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at Howard University College of Pharmacy, Nursing, and Allied Health Sciences in Washington, D.C.  In addition to pharmacy management residency training, Dr. Roberts will be concurrently pursuing a Masters of Business Administration in Medical Services Management from the Carey School of Business at Johns Hopkins University.  Her residency project involves observing changing glucose levels in response to varying dosing frequencies and time of day administration of IV steroids in neurosurgery patients.  Morgan would like to recognize her family, extended family, church home and past professors for always being supportive and keeping her focused, grounded, humble and positive.  In her free time, Morgan enjoys traveling, movies, live concerts, attending spoken word poetry readings, and spending quality time with family, friends, and her best friend in the whole wide world, Jarvis!
