Matthew Newman, Pharm.D. 

Newman

Dr. Matthew Newman is from Scituate, Rhode Island. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Northeastern University School of Pharmacy in Boston, Massachusetts in May 2012. Dr. Newman’s professional interests include solid and hematologic malignancies, pain and palliative care, and HIV/AIDS. In addition, he is interested in clinical research, health policy, and pharmacoeconomics. Dr. Newman is also actively involved with professional organizations, including ASHP and MSHP. In his free time, he enjoys running, skiing, kayaking, and cooking. Dr. Newman would like to thank his family, friends, and past and present mentors for their support and guidance.

Janessa Smith, Pharm.D.

Smith

Dr. Janessa M. Smith is originally from Clearwater, FL. She received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Central Florida and her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Dr. Smith’s professional interests include infectious diseases, critical care and pediatrics. Following completion of her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice residency, Dr. Smith plans on pursuing a PGY2 specialty residency in infectious diseases. In her free time, Janessa enjoys exploring the great outdoors, discovering new restaurants and cooking for friends and family. Dr Smith would like to thank her family and friends for their support.

Heather Woodward, Pharm.D.

Woodward

Dr. Heather N. Woodward is originally from Denver, Colorado. She graduated with a B.A. degree in Cognitive Science and French from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York.  After experience in the laboratory setting performing research in Parkinson’s Disease and pulmonary hypertension, she transitioned to a career in pharmacy.  She earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2012. Her professional interests include emergency medicine, neuroscience, public health and outcomes research. Following her pharmacy practice residency, Dr. Woodward plans to pursue a specialty residency, after which she plans to practice as a clinical specialist where she is able to interact with patients, students and residents.  In her spare time, she enjoys running, playing lacrosse, skiing, traveling and spending time with friends and family (especially her two adorable twin nieces).  Dr. Woodward is deeply grateful for the love and support of her family, friends and mentors who continue to encourage and inspire her.

Margaret Croom, Pharm.D.

Croom

Dr. Meg Croom is originally from Charlotte, North Carolina.  After completing her undergraduate degree at Clemson University, she received her Doctorate of Pharmacy degree from the Medical University of South Carolina.  Her professional interests include hematological malignancies, bone marrow transplant, and internal medicine.  Following completion of her pharmacy practice residency, she plans to further her training with a specialty residency in oncology.  Dr. Croom is an avid runner and also enjoys traveling, cooking, and cheering on the Clemson Tigers during football season!  Dr. Croom would like to thank her family, friends, and mentors for their continual support and encouragement.

 Holly Tumlin, Pharm.D.

Tumlin

Dr. Holly L. Tumlin is originally from Kingsport, TN.  In 2006, she traveled south to the University of South Carolina where she completed her prerequisites and became an avid Gamecock fan!  She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the South Carolina College of Pharmacy in May 2012.   Dr. Tumlin’s professional interests include pain management and palliative care, pediatrics, oncology and pharmacy leadership.  After completing a pharmacy practice residency, Dr. Tumlin would like to pursue a second year specialty residency, most likely in pain management and palliative care.  Upon completing her training, Dr. Tumlin is planning on pursuing a career in clinical pharmacy that will have some inpatient and outpatient opportunities as well as serving as a preceptor to pharmacy students and residents.  She would also like to become more involved providing health care to underserved areas both within the United States and overseas.  In her free time, Dr. Tumlin can be found kayaking, hiking, practicing yoga, dancing or spending time with friends and family.  Dr. Tumlin would like to thank her parents, grandparents, family and friends for their continuous support and encouragement.

Ashley Janis, Pharm.D.

Janis

Dr. Ashley Janis is originally from Youngstown, Ohio, and she earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy degree from the University of Cincinnati in June of 2012.  Dr. Janis’ professional interests are critical care, infectious disease, and clinical research.  After completion of her pharmacy practice residency, she plans to pursue a specialty residency in critical care.  Dr. Janis’ ultimate goal is to practice as an intensive care pharmacist in an academic medical center.  In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, learning yoga, and exploring the Baltimore area.  Dr. Janis would like to extend her most sincere appreciation for the continuous encouragement and support of her family, friends, and mentors.

Andrea Passarelli, Pharm.D.

Passarelli

Dr. Andrea Passarelli is originally from Voorheesville, New York.  She earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Delaware in 2008.  She then went on to receive her Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy in 2012.  Dr. Passarelli’s professional interests include critical care, solid organ transplant, and infectious disease.  In her spare time, she enjoys playing volleyball, running, and reading.  Dr. Passarelli would like to thank her family, friends, and mentors for their continued support and commitment to her success.

Catherine Pennington, Pharm.D.

Pennington

Dr. Catherine A. Pennington is originally from Saint Augustine, Florida.  She attended the University of Georgia where she earned B. S. and M. S. degrees in microbiology and later completed a Doctorate of Pharmacy in 2012. Her professional interests include infectious diseases, solid organ transplant and teaching. Following her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency, Dr. Pennington plans to pursue specialty residency training in infectious diseases and eventually practice as a clinical specialist at an academic medical center.  In her spare time, she enjoys playing tennis, swimming, reading, and traveling. Dr. Pennington is blessed with extraordinary support from her family, friends, and mentors and wishes to express her sincere gratitude for their inspiration and encouragement.

Andrian Wong, Pharm.D.

Dr. Adrian Wong is originally from Merrimack, New Hampshire. He graduated with his Doctorate of Pharmacy from the Northeastern University School of Pharmacy in Boston, Massachusetts in May 2012. After completing his pharmacy practice residency, he plans to pursue a PGY2 specialty residency in critical care, an MPH and a career in clinical practice with a role in academia. His professional interests also include infectious disease, HIV/AIDS, emergency medicine, anticoagulation and clinical research. In his spare time, he is an avid marathon runner and enjoys traveling, cooking, Boston sports and the outdoors. Dr. Wong is extremely grateful to his family, friends and mentors for their continuous support, guidance and encouragement.

Martin Bishop, Pharm.D.

Bishop

Dr. Martin Bishop is from Arlington, Texas.  He graduated from Texas Tech University School of Pharmacy in 2011 with a Doctorate of Pharmacy.  He then completed his PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.  Dr. Bishop's professional interests include hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes and their relationship to cardiovascular disease and heart failure.  Upon completion of his PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency, Dr. Bishop plans to pursue a clinical faculty position in which he is able to interact with patients, students and residents.  When not involved with work activities, he likes travelling, music, trying new foods, and photography.  Dr. Bishop is grateful for the extraordinary support of his wife as well as the rest of his family, friends and mentors during his personal and professional growth.

Raymond Lamore, Pharm.D.

Lamore

Dr. Raymond Lamore is originally from Cranston, Rhode Island. He earned his Doctorate of Pharmacy degree from St. John’s University in 2011, and subsequently completed his PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Lamore’s professional interests include critical care, infectious disease, and emergency medicine. He also has a passion for leadership development and academia, as he currently serves as a member of the ASHP Practice Advancement Initiatives Advisory Group. His current research project is directed towards characterizing antimicrobial selection in cardiac arrest patients undergoing therapeutic hypothermia. Following the completion of his PGY-2 specialty residency in critical care, Dr. Lamore plans to pursue a clinical specialist position in an intensive care unit at an academic medical institution. Outside of his professional interests, Raymond enjoys water sports, snowboarding, traveling, and cooking. He would like to thank his family, friends, and mentors for their continued support.

Matthew Lebreche, Pharm.D.

Labreche

Dr. Matthew Labreche is originally from Shrewsbury, MA. He graduated from Northeastern University in Boston with a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree in 2010 and headed south to complete his Master of Science in Pharmacy and PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy/University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Dr. Labreche's interests in infectious diseases include antimicrobial pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics, antimicrobial stewardship, and health outcomes research. His research this year will be focused on antimicrobial use and health outcomes. Upon completion of his PGY-2 Infectious Diseases Residency, he plans to practice as an infectious diseases clinical specialist. His long term goals include improving antimicrobial use to optimize patient outcomes and decrease resistance, contributing to the international infectious diseases community through active involvement in infectious diseases research, and participation infectious disease societies. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, following Boston-area sports teams, snowboarding, and photography. Dr. Labreche is grateful for the continuous support of his family, friends, and mentors.

Andrew Stivers, Pharm.D.

Stivers

Dr. Andrew Stivers is from Lewiston, New York.  He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemical Pharmacology from the University at Buffalo and his Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.  Dr. Stivers completed his PGY1 Pharmacy Practice residency at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH and is currently the PGY2 Medication Use Safety Resident at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.  Dr. Stivers’ professional interests include medication safety, smart pump technology, clinical decision support systems, as well as critical care and adult medicine.  Upon completion of his residency training, Dr. Stivers hopes to obtain a position as a medication safety officer.  In his free time Dr. Stivers enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, trying new restaurants, and is an avid Buffalo Bills and Sabres fan.  Dr. Stivers is grateful for the love and support of his family, friends, and mentors.

 Kate Jeffers, Pharm.D.

Jeffers

Dr. Kate Jeffers is originally from Severna Park, Maryland. She earned B.S. degree in Biological Sciences with a minor in Chemistry from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and received her Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. Dr. Jeffers completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and is currently completing her PGY2 Oncology specialty residency. Dr. Jeffers’ professional interests include solid and hematologic malignancies, leadership development, and academia. Following completion of her residency training, Dr. Jeffers hopes to practice as a clinical pharmacy specialist in an academic medical center where she will be able to teach and precept students and residents while maintaining a clinical practice. She is an active member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists where she currently serves as resident appointee to The Commission on Credentialing. In her free time, Kate enjoys boating, skiing, attending Ravens football games, and spending time with family and friends. Kate would like to thank her husband, family, friends, and mentors for their continuous support throughout her education and training.

Brandon Shank, Pharm.D.

Dr. Brandon Shank is originally from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy in May 2011. He completed his PGY1 Pharmacy Practice residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and is currently completing his PGY2 Oncology specialty residency. Dr. Shank hopes to obtain a position as a clinical specialist at an academic medical center or clinical faculty position where he can progress the practice of pharmacy through scholarly activity and education. In addition to oncology, Dr. Shank’s professional interests include academia, pharmacoeconomics, research, and administration. Currently, he serves on the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists New Practitioners Forum Science and Research Advisory Group. In his spare time, he enjoys exercising, the outdoors, and spending time with family and friends. Dr. Shank would like to thank his family, friends, and mentors for their continued support.

 Lauren Koranteng, Pharm.D.

Koranteng

Dr. Koranteng is originally from Ghana.  She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Neuroscience and Behavior with a minor in Complex Organizations from Mount Holyoke College.  She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Temple University School of Pharmacy.  Dr. Koranteng completed her PGY -1 residency at University at Buffalo/Niagara Hospice Inc.  Her professional interests include collaborative work with healthcare professionals to provide pain and palliative care services to oncology patients, patients with acute or chronic non-malignant pain including sickle-cell patients and patients at the end-of-life. She also has a continued interest in joining efforts to improve access to controlled medicines in developing countries. She spends her free time appreciating the art of dance and music, as well as cooking. She is very grateful to her family and friends for their continued support.

 Jessica Chasler, Pharm.D.

Chasler

Dr. Jessica Chasler is originally from Rockville, Maryland. She earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from the College of William and Mary in 2008. She completed pharmacy school at University of Maryland earning her Doctorate of Pharmacy in May 2012. Dr. Chasler’s professional interests include internal medicine, cardiology, and anticoagulation.  Following completion of her pharmacotherapy residency, she plans to pursue a clinical specialist position in an academic medical institution. Outside of her professional life, Dr. Chasler loves to spend time with family and friends, listen to and play music, and curl up with a good book. Dr. Chasler is infinitely grateful for the support, guidance, and inspiration she has received from her family, friends, and mentors over the years.

 Emily Pherson, Pharm.D.

Pherson

Dr. Emily Pherson is originally from Allentown, Pennsylvania. She earned B.S. degrees in Biological Sciences and Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park and received her Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. Dr. Pherson’s professional interests include internal medicine, infectious disease, outcomes research and clinical services development. Her research project is focused on exploring the role of the pharmacist in decreasing hospital readmissions through home based medication reconciliation. After residency, she hopes to obtain a position as an Internal Medicine Clinical Pharmacy Specialist. Dr. Pherson is an active member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists where she currently serves on the New Practitioners Forum Professional Practice Advisory Group. In her free time, Emily enjoys running, attending Maryland football games, and traveling to visit family and friends. Dr. Celia A. Proctor is from Lead Hill, Arkansas. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Central Arkansas and received her Doctorate of Pharmacy from Harding University College of Pharmacy. Chelsea Leeper, Pharm.D.

Leeper   

Dr. Chelsea Leeper is from West Lafayette, Indiana. She graduated in May of 2011 with her Doctorate of Pharmacy from the Purdue University College of Pharmacy. She is currently in the second year of the two year Health-System Pharmacy Administration Residency, which includes a MBA in Medical Services Management from the Carey School of Business. Her professional interests include involvement in professional pharmacy organizations, practice in academia, promotion of medication safety, and exploration of ambulatory care and outpatient pharmacy based initiatives. In her free time Dr. Leeper enjoys spending time with her husband Wes and puppy Bogart, running half-marathons, baking, and traveling.  Ellen Tal Placido, Pharm.D.

Dr. Ellen Tal Placido is from Plano, Texas.  She earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy from the Northeastern University School of Pharmacy.  Dr. Tal Placido is in her second year of the two year Health-System Pharmacy Administration Residency, which includes the completion of a Masters of Business Administration in Medical Services Management at the Johns Hopkins Carey School of Business.  Dr. Tal Placido’s professional interests include clinical and operations management, leadership development, automation and technology, and pediatrics.  Her first year residency project evaluated a new team-based rotation within the residency program to facilitate the expansion of clinical pharmacy services. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, photography, and spending time with her fiancé, Jeremy.  Dr. Tal Placido would like to extend her sincere appreciation to her parents, family, friends, and mentors for their continued support and guidance.

Van Do, Pharm.D.

VanDo

Dr. Van Do is from Omaha, Nebraska. He earned his Doctorate of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Science, Major in Computer Science from Creighton University in May 2011. Dr. Do is in his second year of a two-year Pharmacy Informatics Residency. Dr. Do’s professional interests include clinical decision support, artificial intelligence, human factors engineering, and medication safety. Presently, Dr. Do is serving on the ASHP Section of Pharmacy Informatics and Technology Advisory Group on Clinical Information Systems. In his spare time, Dr. Do enjoys graphic and web design, watching football, NCAA basketball, and landscape drawing. Dr. Do would like to thank his family, friends, and mentors for all their support and humor throughout all these years.

Lauren King, Pharm.D.

King

Dr. King is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Duquesne University, Mylan School of Pharmacy in May 2011. Dr. King completed her PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice residency at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. During her PGY-1, she focused her rotations in the medical, trauma, neurosurgical and cardiac intensive care units and emergency department.  She is currently the Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Specialty Resident at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. King's professional interests include the neurosciences, cardiology, and preceptorship. Upon completion of her residency, Dr. King plans to pursue a clinical specialist position at an academic medical center. In her free time, Lauren enjoys practicing vinyasa yoga, trying new restaurants, spending time with her friends and family, and cheering for all of the Pittsburgh sports teams.  Lauren is extremely grateful for the continued support she receives from her mother, brothers Patrick and Gregory, sister-in-law Alison, friends, and mentors.

Sarah Thiel, Pharm.D.

Thiel

Dr. Sarah R. Thiel is from Kentwood, Michigan. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Cellular, Molecular Biology with a Minor in Germanic Studies from the University of Michigan in 2007. She went on to earn her Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy in May 2011 and completed her PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Thiel’s professional interests include pediatrics and women’s health, with a particular interest in neonatal and pediatric intensive care as well as drug use in pregnancy and obstetrics. Her current research project focuses on diuretic resistance in post-op pediatric cardiac surgery patients. Following completion of her residency training, Dr. Thiel hopes to practice as a clinical pharmacy specialist in an academic medical center where she will be able to teach and precept students and residents while maintaining a clinical practice. In her free time, Sarah enjoys hanging out with her friends and family, exploring the great outdoors, and relaxing while reading a good book. Sarah would like to give her utmost thanks and appreciation to her family, friends, and mentors back home for all of their love, support, and encouragement over the years (Go Blue!).
