Pharmacy Practice

 Elizabeth Fang, Pharm.D.
Fang
Dr. Fang is originally from Camp Hill, Pennsylvania.  She earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy from the Northeastern University School of Pharmacy in Boston, Massachusetts, in May 2008.  Her professional interests include medication safety, pharmacy informatics, pediatrics, leadership, and critical care.  Dr. Fang was a recipient of the ASHP Student Leadership Award as well as the Eli Lilly Achievement Award.  Her current research involves the development and implementation of a system for capturing and analyzing errors in medication orders processed via prescriber order entry (POE).  Dr. Fang plans to pursue a medication safety specialty residency upon completion of her pharmacy practice residency.  In her spare time, she enjoys reading, dance, and music.  Dr. Fang is grateful to her family, fiancée, friends, and mentors for their continued support.

 Steven Gilmore, Pharm.D.

Steven Gilmore

Dr. Steven Gilmore is from Graham, North Carolina.  He graduated from the University of North Carolina with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2001.  In 2008, he completed his Doctor of Pharmacy Degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy.  His professional interests include oncology and ambulatory care pharmacy, and he plans to pursue a specialty residency in oncology after completing his pharmacy practice residency.  His research project is designed to characterize the outpatient medications and the chronic medical conditions of cancer patients.  Dr. Gilmore enjoys going to baseball games, running, watching his favorite television shows and college basketball (Go Heels!), and spending time with friends or family.  His favorite foods are Eastern North Carolina style Barbeque, chicken biscuits from Bojangles with sweet ice tea, and whatever he cooks at home.

Jeanmarie Salonia, Pharm.D.

Salonia

Dr. Salonia is originally from the New Jersey Shore.  She graduated from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy (University of the Sciences in Philadelphia) with a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree in May of 2008.  Dr. Salonia’s professional interests include critical care and leadership within the pharmacy profession.  Dr. Salonia is a member of the ASHP Foundation Student/New Practitioner Task Force and is involved with their report, Leadership As a Professional Obligation: Report from the Student New Practitioner Leadership Task Force.  She plans to pursue a critical care specialty residency upon completion of her pharmacy practice residency, working toward a career in clinical practice and academia.  Dr. Salonia’s residency project involves the implementation of a validated sedation scale in the Neurosciences Critical Care Unit.  Jeanmarie is grateful to her family, friends, and mentors for their continued support.

Valerie Shafir, Pharm.D.

Shafir

Dr. Shafir is originally from Philadelphia, PA.  She graduated from Temple University School of Pharmacy with a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree in 2008.  Her professional interests include ambulatory care and she plans to pursue an Ambulatory Care Specialty Residency following the completion of her Pharmacy Practice Residency.  Dr. Shafir plans to pursue a career path in academia.  Her residency project involves a comparison of enoxaparin and unfractionated heparin adherence rates for DVT prophylaxis in hospitalized patients.  In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, shopping, and spending time with family and friends.

  Brandon Trollinger, Pharm.D.

Brandon Trollinger

Dr. Trollinger grew up in the west Texas city of Lubbock, and received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy in May 2008. His professional interests include: infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, critical care, and the preceptorship of pharmacy students. His research project involves evaluating physician ordering and prescribing practices in regard to a recently implemented two-step algorithm for the detection of Clostridium difficile-associated disease in hospitalized patients.  He is currently involved in committees of the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists and the ASHP New Practitioners Forum. He plans to pursue an infectious diseases specialty residency following the completion of his pharmacy practice residency. Dr. Trollinger is grateful for the loving support of his family, friends, mentors, and of course, his partner, Chris. In his spare time he enjoys reading, listening to music, watching DVDs, tasting and making fine wines, SCUBA diving, and his Chihuahua, Meredith.

Kimberly Whipple, Pharm.D.

Whipple

Dr Whipple is originally from Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania.  She earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy from Wilkes University, Wilkes-Barre, PA in 2005.  Upon graduation, she entered the United States Air Force and was stationed at Luke Air Force Base, Glendale, AZ for 3 years as a pharmacist.  Her professional interests include ambulatory care and medication safety.  Dr Whipple’s residency project assesses a pharmacist-run patient education discharge program.  In her free time, she enjoys running, reading, cooking and spending time with family and friends.

 Ambulatory Care

Michelle Thomas, Pharm.D.

Thomas

Dr. Thomas grew up in Johnston, Rhode Island.  She earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy from The University of Rhode Island in May of 2007.  She then completed a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, MD.  She is currently completing her PGY-2 specialty residency in ambulatory care.  Dr. Thomas’ residency project involves development and implementation of a standardized bridging guideline for patients on anticoagulation.  Her professional interests include expanding access to medications for underserved populations and enhancing the role of the pharmacist in chronic disease state management. Upon completion of her residency, Dr. Thomas looks forward to combining her clinical practice with her interest in teaching and mentoring pharmacy students and residents.  In her free time she enjoys spending time with friends, traveling, and photography.  She would like to thank all of her family, friends, and mentors who have encouraged her throughout her education and residency.

Critical Care

Andrew Moyer, Pharm.D.

Moyer

Dr. Moyer graduated from the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy, Wilkes University, located in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania – his home state – in 2005. Afterwards, he worked for two years as a clinical pharmacist at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Virginia.   He then followed his career goals and pursued a pharmacy practice residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is now completing his second-year critical care specialty residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Upon completion, he plans on obtaining a position as a critical care pharmacy specialist at a large, academic medical center where he will have the opportunity to work with pharmacy students and residents to further the education of future practitioners. In moments of spare time he plays soccer, beach volleyball, and golf; enjoys grilling out, and traveling to see family and friends; and keeps up with world news and medical literature.

 Ruchi Patel, Pharm.D.

Ruchi Patel

Dr. Patel is originally from Spartanburg, SC. She graduated from the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy Columbia campus with a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree in May of 2007. Dr. Patel completed her PGY-1 pharmacy practice residency at Temple University Hospital, and is currently completing her PGY-2 specialty residency in critical Care. Upon completion of her residency, Dr. Patel plans to pursue a career as a Critical Care Specialist at an academic medical institution with opportunities to precept students and residents.  In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, shopping, learning to cook, going to USC football games, and spending time with friends and family.  Go Gamecocks!

Infectious Diseases

 Alice Jenh

Alice Jenh

Dr. Jenh is originally from Columbus, Ohio, but considers Annandale, New Jersey as her home. She graduated from the Rutgers University Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy with a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree in May of 2007. She completed her Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and is currently the Infectious Diseases Specialty Resident. Dr. Jenh’s professional interests include pediatric infectious diseases and the management of HIV/AIDs and opportunistic infections. Dr. Jenh plans to pursue a pediatric infectious diseases position following the completion of her infectious diseases specialty residency. Dr. Jenh’s residency research project involves examining prolonged sedation secondary to the co-administration of contraindicated antiretrovirals with midazolam used during procedural sedation. Dr. Jenh is grateful for the support and encouragement from her family, friends, and preceptors. In her spare time, she enjoys snowboarding, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends.

Oncology Care

 Danielle Tobin, Pharm.D.

Danielle Tobin

Dr. Tobin is originally from West Grove, Pennsylvania.  She graduated from Duquesne University with a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree in May of 2007.  She completed her PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and is currently a PGY-2 Oncology Pharmacy Resident.  Danielle’s professional interests include: oncology, pain management, and infectious diseases. Upon completion of the residency, Dr. Tobin plans on pursuing a position as an Oncology Clinical Specialist at an academic medical institution.  She intends to pursue a career path that allows for clinical practice with research and teaching opportunities.  Her current research involves evaluating pain assessment and pain medication regimens for patients admitted with intractable pain.  Danielle enjoys skiing, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.

 Leigh Boehmer, Pharm.D.

Leigh Boehmer

Dr. Boehmer is originally from Mason City, Iowa.  He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy with a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree in May of 2007.  He completed his Pharmacy Practice Residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, and is currently completing his Oncology Specialty Residency.  His professional interests are in the fields of ambulatory oncology and academia.  Dr. Boehmer’s residency project involves characterizing changes over time in medication regimens of ambulatory oncology patients in the setting of antineoplastic therapy and treatment-related complications.  In his spare time, Leigh enjoys traveling, playing the piano, and spending time with his husband, family, and friends.

Pediatrics

 Angela Martinez, Pharm.D.

Angela Martinez

Dr. Martinez is originally from Detroit, MI. She earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy from Wayne State University in 2007. Dr. Martinez completed her PGY1 pharmacy practice residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and it currently the PGY2 Pediatric Specialty Resident. Upon completing of the residency year, she plans on pursuing a position as a Pediatric Clinical Specialist within a health-system.  Her professional interests are in pediatric critical care, pediatric emergency medicine, and neonatal critical care. Dr. Martinez’s residency project involves assessing the use of over-the-counter cough and cold products in pediatric patients presenting to the emergency department. In addition, Dr. Martinez is currently the chair of the Resident On-Call Committee. Dr. Martinez is grateful for all of the support of her wonderful family and friends. In her free time, she enjoys shopping, exercising, and spending time with friends and family.

Pharmacotherapy

 Jesica Mangun, Pharm.D.

Jesica MangunOriginally from Staunton, VA, Jesica Mangun graduated from Mary Washington College (now the University of Mary Washington) in 2004 with a B.S. in Chemistry.  She then traveled cross-country to further her education at the University of California, San Francisco School of Pharmacy.  Jesica completed the Pharmaceutical Health Policy and Management Pathway at UCSF and received her Doctorate of Pharmacy in the spring of 2008.  She is now back on the east coast completing her first year of a two-year Pharmacotherapy Residency Program at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, and her research project focuses on studying warfarin-related outcomes resultant from policy changes implemented to comply with the Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goal 03.05.01 for anticoagulation. Her professional interests include internal medicine, outcomes research, pharmacy leadership and management.  When not in the hospital, Jesica enjoys many outdoor activities, such as riding her horse, skiing, hiking and rafting, to name a few.  She also takes much pleasure in anything food or wine-related.  Jesica would like to extend her sincere gratitude to her family, friends and mentors for supporting her in all her academic and extracurricular endeavors.

Practice Management

Jordan Hinkle, Pharm.D., M.B.A. Candidate

HinkleDr. Hinkle hails from Raleigh, North Carolina.  He was recently conferred upon the degree of Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Eshelman School of Pharmacy.   Jordan will be completing a two-year Health-System Pharmacy Administration Residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in addition to completing course work toward a Masters of Business Administration in Medical Services Management at the Johns Hopkins Carey School of Business.  His residency project involves the benchmarking of pharmacy staffing level in pediatrics.  Jordan can either be found spending his free time on the golf course or cheering on his Tar Heels.  He would like to send a special thanks to his family and everyone else who have provided advice and words of encouragement that have helped to get him to where he is today.

 Jennifer Kacmarcik, Pharm.D.

Jennifer Kacmarcik

Dr. Kacmarcik is originally from Wilmington, North Carolina.  She graduated from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry in 2003.  In 2007, she earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy in Chapel Hill.  While completing her two-year Health-System Pharmacy Administration Residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, she is concurrently finishing course work toward a Masters of Business Administration in Medical Services Management from the Carey School of Business at Johns Hopkins University.  Her residency project involves assessing the use of inhaled epoprostenol in pediatric inpatients with pulmonary hypertension.  Jennifer would like to recognize her father, mother, brother, fiancé, extended family, and mentors who have helped her become the person and practitioner she is today.  In her free time, Jennifer enjoys water skiing, golfing, rollerblading, and traveling to the beach.  On Saturdays in the fall, she can usually be found watching college football.  Go Hokies!!!

 Pat McMahon, Pharm.D.

Pat McMahon

Dr. McMahon originally hails from Wallingford, Connecticut and is a 2004 graduate from the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy.  Dr. McMahon served as his pharmacy school class president from 2001-2004.  Upon graduation, he accepted a commisson as a captain in the United States Air Force.  During his 4-year tour, Dr. McMahon assisted in the relief effort to victims of Huricane Katrina, managed an anticoagulation clinic, and developed a smoking cessation clinic.  He was awarded a Humanitarian Medal and Commendation Medal for his meritorious service.    While completing his two-year Health-System Pharmacy Administration Residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, he is concurrently finishing course work toward a Masters of Business Administration in Medical Services Management from the Carey School of Business at Johns Hopkins University.  Dr. McMahon's research project involves measuring response times of a nurse managed heparin pilot.  For fun, he enjoys attending concerts and sporting events and is an avid No Limit Hold'em player.

 Morgan Roberts, Pharm.D.

Morgan Roberts

Dr. Roberts has come back home to Baltimore, Maryland, to advance her pharmacy education and training.  She graduated from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 2002.  In 2007, she earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy degree at Howard University College of Pharmacy, Nursing, and Allied Health Sciences in Washington, D.C.  In addition to Health-System Pharmacy Administration residency training, Dr. Roberts will be concurrently pursuing a Masters of Business Administration in Medical Services Management from the Carey School of Business at Johns Hopkins University.  Her residency project involves evaluating hyperglycemic control in patients following partial/total pancreatectomy post-implementation of a hyperglycemia order set.  Morgan would like to recognize her family, extended family, church home and past professors for always being supportive and keeping her focused, grounded, humble and positive.  In her free time, Morgan enjoys traveling, movies, live concerts, attending spoken word poetry readings, and spending quality time with family, friends, and her fiancé Jarvi
