Professional Development Office:
The JHMI Professional Development Office (PDO) supports the professional and career development of JHMI faculty, postdocs, graduate students, and medical students. We offer a variety of free and tuition-supported classes in biomedical communications, as well as a broad range of career-related services. http://www.jhu.edu/~pdo/
Student Assistance Program:
The Student Assistance Program (SAP) provides support in dealing with the pressures and challenges students face during their academic and professional careers.
The Student Assistance Program offers:
- Discussion and support groups;
- Preventative and educational sessions;
- Identification and assessment of personal, family, and school/work-related issues;
- Brief counseling and consultation; and
- Referral to appropriate and accessible services and resources.

Disability Services:
A person with a disability is defined by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 as an individual who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, has a record of such an impairment, or is regarded as having such an impairment. For persons with disabilities it is important to provide to the University a comprehensive evaluation of a specific disability from an appropriate qualified diagnostician that identifies the type of disability, describes the current level of functioning in an academic or employment setting and lists recommended accommodations. It is important to submit this documentation to the Dean for Graduate Students in a timely manner. Occasionally, it may be necessary to request additional information from an individual’s diagnostician to verify the information or accommodations.
The Associate Director for Disability Services in the Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Programs serves as the central point of contact for information on physical and programmatic access, specific accommodations, resolution of complaints and problems, and identification of available services.
