The Saga of Sam
Sunday, May 29, 1994You now have an even puffier face. Dr. Ramos suggests we move you back to the hospital bed for elevation. Timmy and Andrew visit. It is a pleasant and entertaining day. Again, bedtime brings the upset stomach. You don't know whether you are hungry or nauseous. We try some milk and graham crackers around 2:00 A.M. By 3:00 you're vomiting and your nose is bleeding. Several BMs later you finally go to sleep in the waterbed. I know the nausea, vomiting, etc. sounds repetitious, but it is a major part of life. Sleep is at a premium.
Your weight is steadily increasing (110 lbs. now). You are uncomfortable and coughing. Abdominal pain is present. Dr. Ramos asks us to meet her at the ER (Monday, May 30). Dr. Schwarz sees you Tuesday morning. She feels low sodium is causing the upset stomach and vomiting. She gives a unit of FFP. We are concerned about anxiety.
Dr. Schwarz decides to admit you. You are noticeably relieved. Johns Hopkins Children's Center and Dr. Schwarz are a source of security for you. Dr. Schwarz arranges your sclerotherapy treatment for tomorrow.
