The Saga of Sam
Friday, May 13, 1994This is your first operating room experience. You sure pick a great day for your first OR visit. I guess you and Dr. Schwarz are not superstitious. One parent is allowed in, so I go with you. You are on the gurney; I'm dressed in the OR pants, shirt, mask and hat. You seem quite relaxed. One humorous aside --- They were trying to move you from the gurney to the OR table without great success. It's one of those cases where you can't see the forest for the trees. I suggested that you just stand up and then sit down on the OR table. They are not used to people that can walk. At any rate, the anesthesiologist prepared the IVs, told you to expect to taste garlic pizza, and held the oxygen mask. Within seconds you are asleep. The anesthesiologist said I could kiss you, so I bent over and kissed you. He tells me I could have removed my mask. I left, Dr. Schwarz said, "no engineers needed", and an hour or so later you were in the recovery room. You tolerated the procedure well and in a little while were back in your room, by evening you were drinking liquids.
