The Saga of Sam
Sunday, April 24, 1994We played miniature golf again. They had the most unique course and you were bound and determined to do it. Again, the burning returned, so we left for home. We tried solarcaine and hydrocortisone creme with no relief on the way home. We called Dr. Schwarz, at home, on this Sunday evening. She found no photo sensitivity with any of the medicines. By 8:00 P.M. you were in serious distress. You felt like your hands were burning. At times you described it as feeling like you were being cut repeatedly with razor blades. Dr. Schwarz had suggested Benadryl. By 11:00 P.M., you had had 100 mg with no relief. You seemed to be hallucinating. We were wrapping your hands in wet towels. There was no doubt in my mind that you truly thought your hands were on fire. You were trying to beat them out. It was frightening - it reminded me of someone with the DTs from alcohol. You and Mom made this trip to the ER. More benadryl and finally you were sedated.
