The Saga of Sam
Thursday, April 14, 1994The penicillamine is restarted at 1/8 dose. It will be titrated up 1/8 at a time every three days. That's going to take over three weeks. Trien is started. It is another less effective de-coppering agent. Trien is not well known in the pharmacies nor readily available. More FFP is given. IV lasix is controlling the fluid. Shaun comes to visit. His urine and blood tests do not indicate Wilson's Disease, but suggest that he may carry the disease. Shaun is pretty apprehensive and the FFP causes a severe headache. This is the most pain I've seen you in. Benadryl is finally used to sedate you, but these blood products are looking pretty unpredictable. It's not a good day for you or for Shaun or, for me and Mom.
Shaun is showing strength and resourcefulness. He is a nomad living between the Freitags, Harnesses and Leos. You have both received excellent report cards (Sam - Mostly A's, One B, Shaun - Mostly A's, a few B's). Incredible, given what we have been going through. Shaun asked Dave Richendorfer, the LTRC travel baseball coach, if he could try out late. Dave gave him the opportunity and he made it. It was a wonderful outlet for you and great pre-occupation. - Thanks Dave!
