Returning to the Hospital

Your child will return to the hospital for checkups.  At these times, as with all aspects of your child’s health care, it is important to provide honest information.

Reassure your child that:

  • All people who have had transplants need to return for checkups.
  • The checkup is to see if the medicines he is taking are still the right kind and amounts for his growing body, and for the doctor to see how his heart is working.
  • All the tests will be familiar to him.

Talk together about:

  • What has helped him through challenging procedures in the past.
  • What he would like to do this time during the procedure.
  • What he would like to do with you after the procedure.
