Will my insurance cover the transplant?
You will be asked to provide your insurance information during the transplant evaluation. The liver transplant financial coordinator will verify your coverage and explain these terms to you. Authorization from your insurance carrier will be obtained. Remember, even with good insurance coverage, it is beneficial to have funds available for the other expenses associated with transplantation.
Be sure to pay your premiums so the policy will not lapse. If you change insurances during before or after the transplant, it is very important to let your transplant financial coordinator know this information so that the correct coverage is in place.

What do I need to remember while managing the financial issues of my child’s transplant?
- Ask your insurance company about pre-certification or using a specific provider.
- Follow the rules set forth by your insurance company so that your benefits will not be decreased.
- Keep copies of all medical bills, insurance forms and payments (or canceled checks). Keep a log of your conversations with anyone in the hospital’s billing office or your insurance company: who you talked to, date and time and questions answered.
- Keep Children’s informed about your insurance, especially if you have more than one insurance company.
