Featured Patient Story: Kathleen O’Brien Thompson

Minimally Invasive Pancreatic Surgery

When Kathleen O’Brien Thompson was diagnosed with a pancreatic tumor, she was hesitant to undergo the standard surgery to treat it: an open cavity surgery to remove the head of the pancreas, the gall bladder and possibly part of the stomach. When researched options at Johns Hopkins, she learned of an alternative, minimally invasive procedure that, in her case, offered her less pain and a quicker recovery time. Within three weeks after her surgery, she was back to most of her normal activities.
