Breast Cancer: Dorothy Hamill
Legendary figure skater receives treatment and support after a devastating breast cancer diagnosis.
Dorothy’s story may remind you of someone you know. Maybe it’s reminiscent of your story. Every year in the United States, close to 250,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer. They’re young women, older women, wives, mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, cousins and friends. They all need support, encouragement and the promise of successful treatment - and perhaps one day, a cure.
No matter where a woman is on her journey through this illness, the Johns Hopkins Breast Center provides expert care and personalized support every step of the way.
Our comprehensive program is led by a team of nationally and internationally renowned breast cancer specialists who can manage any phase of the disease. One of the Center’s defining features is our support system, featuring a survivor volunteer program that pairs each patient with a breast cancer survivor who has experienced a similar diagnosis and treatment plan. Plus, two of our nurses are breast cancer survivors who understand firsthand the importance of coordinated care, education and timely test results.
