Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center CPE Program

The Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center CPE Program is accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), Inc. to offer Level I, Level II and Supervisory Education.  ACPE, Inc. is recognized as an accredited agency in the field of clinical pastoral education by the U.S. Secretary of Education, through the U.S. Department of Education.

Bayview offers two part time programs:  a medical center based program and a community based program.

The part-time program offers a flexible schedule for those seeking to learn more about chaplaincy in a hospital and to develop pastoral skills. Typically, four to six students are accepted into this program, which lasts for six months. The groups meet weekly for lectures, discussion and student presentations. Each student is responsible for on-call coverage of the hospital and eight hours of direct patient care each week. The hours of patient care visitation often can be negotiated so that students may integrate this program into their regular work schedule. This program is recommended for persons with ministry experience who are unable to leave their current employment, and who have an expressed interest in chaplaincy and pastoral skill development.

Pre-requisites include: Graduation from an accredited college, a completed application form and fee, an interview with a qualified interviewer, and eligibility to be a volunteer at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.
