Pancreatic Cancer and Other Pancreatic Diseases
Expert care for pancreas cancer, tumors, and cysts
Having pancreatic cancer – or a suspicious tumor on your pancreas – is a frightening diagnosis. Johns Hopkins experts, some of the most experienced pancreatic specialists in the country, are working to dispel fears and create hope in patients with pancreas disease. Pancreatic cancer, tumors and cysts are being treated with dramatic success through innovative procedures perfected at Johns Hopkins.
The first step when dealing with suspected pancreas cancer is accurate imaging and diagnosis, followed by determining whether or not you are a candidate for surgery. Our internationally recognized physician-scientists are dedicated to delivering state-of-the-art treatment planning and innovative, expert care to our patient.
Pioneers in the Whipple Procedure
One of the few centers in the U.S. performing a less invasive Whipple procedure
World renowned pancreatic surgeon Dr. John Cameron and his colleagues at Johns Hopkins have made significant improvements to the Whipple procedure, the primary surgical treatment for pancreatic cancer that occurs within the head of the gland (also called a pancreaticodoudenectomy). Today, our surgeons perform a high volume of these procedures and have lessened the complications during and after surgery.
We also have minimally invasive or laparoscopic options for the Whipple procedure and other pancreas surgeries. Our team can help determine whether you are a candidate for these procedures and we are one of a select few centers in the United States performing the laparoscopic-assisted Whipple procedure. Our surgical oncologists are committed to offering patients the best type of surgery for their individual needs.
