Audiology
The Division of Audiology dispenses state-of-the-art hearing aid
technology. The audiologists work with a variety of manufacturers to
select a hearing aid specific to a patient’s hearing loss and individual
life style.
Three Steps to Obtaining Hearing Aids
1. Diagnostic Hearing Evaluation- The patient will first need to have their
hearing tested by a certified audiologist. The audiologist may recommend
a physician consultation based on the test results prior to the hearing
aid fitting.
2. Hearing Aid Selection- The patient will now sit down with the audiologist
and discuss the different styles and circuitry available in hearing aids.
A decision will be made as to which hearing aid is most appropriate based
on the hearing loss and specific listening demands of the individual.
3. Hearing Aid Issuance- Two to three weeks after the selection is completed,
the patient will return to be fit with the hearing aid. The patient will
begin a 60-day trial period at this time. The patient will be instructed
regarding the proper care, use and maintenance of the hearing aid. Future
follow-up visits will be scheduled for hearing aid rehabilitation as needed.
Hearing Aid Styles
There are four sizes of hearing aids available, depending on the size and
shape of the ear canal and the degree of hearing loss:

Hearing Aid Technology
There are many advanced technology hearing aids available today. Some
may be programmed to specifically match the shape of an individual’s
hearing loss. Many parameters are available to fine-tune and adjust
the aids to suit the individual listening demands. Many hearing aids
today
are able to automatically adjust the volume. Noise reduction capabilities,
including directional microphones, may be available. Separate memory
programs may also be available, as well as remote controls.
Your audiologist will review all the technology options available and help
determine which is most suited to your hearing and lifestyle needs.
