Center for Dentistry and Oral Surgery

FROM THE DIRECTOR

Welcome to the Division of Dentistry and Oral Surgery. We are committed to delivering the best oral health care for our patients in a hospital setting. Our core team includes two general dentists, one dental hygienist, one maxillofacial prosthodontist, and two oral and maxillofacial surgeons.

We are able to treat the full-spectrum of oral, dental, and jaw-related problems from simple dental decay to complex maxillofacial defects secondary to surgery, trauma, and congenital deformities.

Our team is especially focused on the surgical, restorative, prosthetic, and cosmetic techniques related to implant dentistry. We welcome the difficult and complex restorative cases, knowing that we can draw on the expertise of our colleagues in otolaryngology, especially cosmetic plastic surgery and head and neck surgery, as well as those in other Hopkins departments to provide a multidisciplinary perspective as needed to ensure the best possible treatment.

Our expertise also extends to dental assessment and management prior to head and neck radiation therapy, heart surgery, bone marrow and solid-organ transplant surgery, and other disease processes where identifying and treating dental disease may play a role in a successful outcome.

In addition to patient care, the Division is committed to educating the public about oral health issues such as:

• Need for oral cancer screenings
• Dangers of tobacco use
• Importance of regular checkups
• How oral/dental health affects one’s overall wellness

We are also instituting a General Practice Residency program, to afford recent dental school graduates an opportunity to further their education in hospital dentistry.

Thank you.
