John H. Adair, MBA, CPA, CHFP
John Adair serves as a Senior Project Administrator as well as the Acting Associate Director in the Department of Operations Integration. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the United States Naval Academy and his Masters in Business Administration from The Carey Business School where he is currently an instructor for Managerial Economics, Microeconomics, and Macroeconomics.
John coordinates the benchmarking initiative for the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Johns Hopkins Health System, specifically working with the University HealthSystem Consortium’s (UHC) Operational Data Base (ODB / ACTION OI). He facilitates strategic benchmarking initiatives and oversees the data collection and validation processes related to submitting Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Health System expense and statistical data into the UHC ODB.
Prior to joining the Operations Integration team, John was the Senior Budget Analyst for the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine.
He serves as an arbitrator for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority and is an active member of the Institute of Management Accountants, Healthcare Financial Management Association, Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants and the Association of Certified Public Accountants. He is a certified Six Sigma Green Belt and Lean Leader.
Jeff Appelbaum
Jeff Appelbaum serves as a Senior Project Administrator in the Department of Operations Integration. Mr. Appelbaum has over 25 years of experience in the Information Systems field.
Prior to joining Johns Hopkins, Mr. Appelbaum's roles included; CIO, Information Systems Director, and Operations Director. He also has extensive experience in project management.
Katie Outten, BSN, RN
Katie Outten serves as a Senior Project Administrator in the Department of Operations Integration. She earned her Baccalaureate in Nursing degree at the University of Delaware. She recently earned her Business of Nursing certificate at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing/Carey School of Business. She is currently working on her Master of Science in Nursing degree with a focus in Health Systems Management.
Prior to coming to Operations Integration, Katie was a nurse in Adult Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital for the past ten years. She was active in the Department of Medical Nursing, specifically Magnet desgnation in 2003 and re-designation in 2008. She participated in Respiratory Performance Improvement and Service Excellence initiatives on her nursing unit. She also was involved in the pilot program in the Department of Medicine, Clinician as Customer, which evolved into her last role as a Patient Care Coordinator for the MEG service.
Jennifer Parks, MPH
Jennifer Parks is a Senior Project Administrator in Operations Integration. She is an alumna of Pennsylvania State University and the University of Texas. She has earned a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification. Jennifer’s expertise is in utilizing statistical methods and data design to support operational and clinical leaders in strategic decision making and organizational goal setting. She is skilled in aligning individual performance for team success, establishing links among organizational efforts to optimize efficiencies, and driving continuous process improvement.
Jennifer’s work has been presented at national forums such as IHI, UHC, EAST, ABA, AAST, WTA, and ACEP, as well as published in several peer-reviewed journals. She is currently dedicated to operations planning for the new clinical building.
Karen D. Wilson, MBA
Karen Wilson is a Senior Project Administrator in the Department of Operations Integration. Karen has twelve years of experience within various sectors of the health care industry including pharmaceutical sales, insurance/managed care, reimbursement analysis, and compliance. She holds a BS degree in Zoology/Chemistry and an MBA from Howard University.
She is currently assigned to Howard County General Hospital where she has led a number of performance and process improvement projects and has had past involvement with HCGH Patient Safety Retreats. Current projects include HCGH Primary Stroke Center, HCGH ED Triage to Radiology, HCGH Perioperative Efficiency, and HCGH Mislabeled Serum Specimens. She also serves as a member on the HCGH Emergency Management Advisory Team through her involvement with HCGH Business Continuity Planning and as an ad hoc member on the HCGH Patient Safety Coordinating Council and HCGH Lab Variance and Point of Care Committee.
Susan Gordon
Senior Project Analyst
Susan Gordon serves as a Senior Project Analyst in the Department of Operations Integration. She earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration and Information Systems at Trinity University located in Washington D.C. She is currently enrolled in the Information Systems Masters Program at the University Of Maryland Baltimore County.

Prior to coming to Operations Integration, Susan was a Decision Support Analyst in the Finance Department. She has worked in Information Systems for more than 20 years and is Six Sigma, Lean, and ISO trained.
