Medicare Waiver

Like the Affordable Care Act of 2010, the new Maryland Medicare waiver, which took effect January 1, 2014, aims to rein in health spending while encouraging the delivery of better care, with a particular emphasis on preventive care that keeps patients healthy and out of the hospital. To keep the waiver past 2018, Maryland has to reduce 30-day readmissions and hospital-acquired conditions as well as hit other quality targets.
