ICD-10

On Oct. 1, 2015, health care organizations nationwide will switch from the International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-9 billing code system to the more detailed ICD-10. Mandated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the system will update from a template with 14,000 codes to one with nearly 70,000 codes. Johns Hopkins Medicine is ready for this transition with several resources available and relevant online training modules for your specific areas. But the best way to prepare for a smooth transition is to provide good documentation with a level of detail that supports the billing code submitted.
