Welcome Letter from the Associate Dean

Dr CollinsChiquita A. Collins, Ph.D., Associate Dean

On behalf of the Office of Diversity and Cultural Competence, welcome and thank you for your interest in the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.  As the rapid changing demographics are reshaping the delivery of healthcare taking place today, we are committed to creating a workforce and student body that reflects this change.

It is an exciting time in academic medicine.  We are uniquely positioned for fostering diversity and inclusion in research, clinical care, and education along with ensuring a diverse and inclusive environment of faculty, house staff, and students.  Our commitment to diversity includes but is not limited to race, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion and spiritual beliefs, and disabilities.

A champion of diversity since arriving at Johns Hopkins in 1970, Dr. Watkins advocated for fairness and equity and set the standard for diversity for the medical campus with his unwavering dedication, leadership and compassion for those he served.

Dr. Watkins has helped make Hopkins Medicine a better place for countless students, faculty and staff because of his transformative efforts in recruiting, mentoring, and retaining the best and the brightest.
