Perianesthesia

The Department of Perioperative Services supports professional Perianesthesia Nursing practice in collaboration within the Departments of Surgery, Medicine and the Children’s Center.

Perianesthesia Nursing care is provided by professional staff who are assisted by clinical and support associates and other ancillary staff. Standards of care are based on American Society of Perianesthesia Nursing (ASPAN) standards.

Each unit offers age appropriate care to outpatients, inpatients and same day admission patients. Levels of care include Pre-anesthesia: Pre-op Inpatient and Day of Surgery/Procedure and Post-anesthesia: Phase I, Phase II, and Extended Observation. Family members and significant others and other healthcare providers are included in the plan of care.
