Intermediate care for patients recovering from complex and multi-system medical illnesses.
Patient Population
- Adult
- Diagnoses include: DKA, sickle cell crisis, liver failure, pulmonary hypertension, GI bleed
- Average length of stay: 5 days
Number of Beds
- 15 (4 with ventilator; all monitored)
Nurse/Patient Ratio
- 1:3
Rotation/Shifts
- 30-percent rotation to off-shift (evenings and/or nights)
Skill Mix
- 95 percent RN; 75 percent BSN
- ACLS preferred
Orientation
- 10 weeks
- Mentoring from unit-based clinical resource nurse
- New Grad: SPRING program
