Hospital of choice
The Johns Hopkins Hospital is the only medical center in Maryland to receive a Hospital of Choice Award from the American Alliance of Healthcare Providers, which evaluates approximately 400 hospitals nationwide for the honor. Hopkins was one of 50 hospitals in 29 states and the District of Columbia to receive the award for the winter quarter.

Stephanie Reel, vice president and CIO of information services for Johns Hopkins Medicine, has been inducted into CIO magazine’s CIO Hall of Fame. According to the magazine, the honor is bestowed on a select group of IT executives and visionaries who have had a significant impact on the field of IT.
Suburban Hospital kudos
Inpatient care at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Md., has been ranked in the top five among 30 Washington, D.C.-region acute care hospitals in a recent report by Washington Consumers’ Checkbook, a publication of the Center for the Study of Services. Suburban is the only Maryland hospital within the region covered by the survey to be ranked that high.
The hospital also received a Secretary’s Pick award from the secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for its unique patient-tracking and locating system that was developed for use during disasters. The system was devised in collaboration with the National Library of Medicine.
