A Giant in Medicine
Date: February 1, 2012
I was pleased to read the article about Dr. Jeremiah Barondess in a past issue of Hopkins Medicine magazine. His CV is truly extraordinary—from serving our country in the military to presidencies in Alpha Omega Alpha, the American Osler Society, the American College of Physicians, and many other honors.
I had the honor to be invited for lunch at the New York Academy of Medicine [when he was director]. The only gift I could take him was a medallion of Louis Pasteur, which I had brought from the Pasteur Institute in Paris. On the wall of Dr. Barondess’ office you could see the picture of the legendary A. McGehee Harvey, who was a personal friend of his. I believe that Dr. Barondess would not like for me to say all this because he is a humble gentleman; however, I do feel the younger generation does need to know [that he is] a true giant in medicine.
