A new medical building at Sibley Memorial Hospital is set to open in March. The structure will provide approximately 62,000 square feet for physician offices—enough to accommodate 62 doctors practicing various specialties—plus 15,000 square feet of medical retail space, a three-suite surgery center and imaging center. A new 750-car parking garage for patients and visitors opened in late January adjacent to the new facility.

According to Jerry Price, Sibley’s senior vice president for real estate and construction, plans also include an outpatient pharmacy, gift shop, credit union, café, medical spa for cosmetic procedures, and conference center for community education and staff meetings. A large courtyard with umbrella tables for outdoor dining and a sculpture garden will enhance the exterior.

The opening of the building represents the first step of a three-phase master plan. A replacement of the radiation oncology facility and cancer center will follow, expected to be complete in 2012, and a new hospital pavilion with all-private patient rooms has an anticipated opening date of 2015. Price notes that the recent integration with Johns Hopkins Medicine is generating positive community feedback, which he expects will result in stronger support for the new facilities.
