Remote Second Opinion Program

The Johns Hopkins Neuroimmunology and Neurological Infections Remote Second Opinion Program is a service offered to people who would like a second medical opinion for immune mediated or infectious neurologic disorders. Within the Division of Neuroimmunology and Neurological Infections, our team members specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of multiple sclerosis, transverse myelitiis, neuromyelitis optica (Devic's disease), acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM), encephalitis, meningitis, the neurologic effects of HIV among other immune mediated and infectious neurologic disorders.

Our goal is to provide a second opinion to individuals who may not be able to travel to the Johns Hopkins Hospital due to personal restrictions. A Johns Hopkins neurologist will review all available medical records and address specific questions related to diagnosis and patient care recommendations. The second opinion report is completed in a time-sensitive manner so that important health care decisions can be pursued quickly and effectively.

Prospective applicants will need to complete the second opinion application and return it along with ALL pertinent medical records. Applicants will also need to obtain prior authorization from their local physician. Once all required documents have been received, the second opinion report will be written and sent to the patient and their physician within 10 business days.
