OCT is a sensitive and easy method to measure the health of nerve fibers in the back of the eye. We have previously learned that changes in OCT measurements are linked to the overall damage from multiple sclerosis (MS). Using OCT in clinical trials of new treatments may help us discover treatments that can help protect the brain from damage. We have continued to collaborate with researchers from University of Pennsylvania and UT Southwestern and together have performed OCT scans on over 1,500 MS patients.
We are now engaged in an ongoing study examining whether OCT can predict future changes in the brain, thereby allowing earlier intervention. Collaborators include Dr Laura Balcer (U Penn), Dr Elliot Frohman (UT Southwestern) and Dr Peter Calabresi.
