Dr. Nicoline Schiess received her B.S. degree in Neuroscience from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and her medical degree from Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary. She completed an Internship in Medicine at New York Medical College and a residency in Neurology at New York University (NYU). She subsequently completed fellowship training in Neuroimmunology and Neurological Infections at the Johns Hopkins Hospital with a grant from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Now an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Schiess' research focuses on viral infections of the brain – specifically herpes viruses. She is also the Director for the Nervous System and Special Senses section of the Genes to Society Curriculum for Johns Hopkins medical students.
Dr. Schiess is currently working in the United Arab Emirates on a Fulbright Scholar Award.
