Now a Professor of Neurology at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Boatman directs a cross-disciplinary program of research and training in clinical auditory neuroscience. Her research program is funded through NIH-NIDCD and focuses on how the human brain ‘hears’ simple and complex sounds. Her laboratory conducts brain mapping studies of neurosurgical patients that combine electrophysiology (intracranial recordings), behavioral testing, signal processing, and statistical modeling. Current studies focus on spatial-temporal dynamics of high-frequency cortical auditory spectral responses in normal and impaired listeners. Her laboratory provides NIH-supported clinical research training for pre-doctoral and post-doctoral trainees in neuroscience, audiology, biostatistics, and bioengineering.
