The Johns Hopkins Neuro-Oncology Surgical Outcomes Research Laboratory

The Neuro-Oncology Outcomes Research Laboratory aims to identify pre- and post-operative treatment measures that influence hospital-based morbidity and mortality in an effort to improve patient safety and maximize the efficacy of current treatment paradigms for patients with brain tumors. The Outcomes Lab also aims to discover novel clinical, radiographic, and physiological parameters that may influence survival in patients with malignant brain tumors.

We achieve these aims by:

  1. defining and applying appropriate outcome measures for brain tumor patients,
  2. integrating outcomes-driven medical informatics and database systems into neurosurgical practice,
  3. creating multivariate bio-statistical models of peri-operative events and disease-free survival, and,
  4. assessing the efficacy of current surgical and medical therapeutics for neurosurgical disease via retrospective and prospective longitudinal studies.
