Dr. Boatman received her doctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania and her clinical training at George Washington University. She completed her post-doctoral training at Johns Hopkins.
Now a Professor of Neurology and Otolaryngology at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Boatman directs the Neuro-Audiology Clinic and Laboratory. Her area of clinical expertise is auditory electrophysiology testing in children with neurological and neurodevelopmental disorders, including epilepsy and autism.
Dr. Boatman’s research is funded through NIH-NIDCD and focuses on how the brain “hears” complex sounds, including speech. She conducts cortical mapping and modeling studies in neurosurgery patients using cortical stimulation, scalp and intracranial recordings, neuroimaging (DTI, fMRI), statistical modeling and signal processing methods. She also studies cortical auditory function in children with epilepsy and autism. Dr. Boatman has established a cross-disciplinary program of research and training in clinical auditory neuroscience.
Dr. Boatman sees patients at the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center in Baltimore on Tuesdays.
