Expert Neurofibromatosis (NF) Care

If you or a loved one is living with any form of NF, you understand it can be a challenge to find one center with all the expertise required for optimal care for the manifestations of NF1 and the schwannomatoses (NF2-schwannomatosis, LZTR1-Schwannomatosis and SMARCB1-schwannomatosis).

The Johns Hopkins Comprehensive Neurofibromatosis Center was founded in 2007 to be an expert medical home for people with all forms of NF across all stages of life.

The NF Center and Kennedy Krieger Partnering for Pediatric Care

In May 2026, the Johns Hopkins Comprehensive Neurofibromatosis Center expanded to include the neurodevelopmental expertise of the Kennedy Krieger Institute via the Kennedy Krieger Pediatric Neurofibromatosis Program at the Johns Hopkins Comprehensive NF Center. This expansion broadened our expertise to cover the entire spectrum of wellness, including neurodevelopmental, neurocognitive, behavioral, emotional and physical wellness, at all stages of life, allowing us to address all possible health concerns a person living with NF may encounter.

NF Research, Clinical Trials and Education

  • Clinical Trials

Researchers at Johns Hopkins and around the world are investigating ways to slow the growth of NF-related tumors and prevent them from forming altogether.

  • Neurofibromatosis Therapeutic Acceleration Program (NTAP)

Johns Hopkins researchers have founded and lead NTAP – an organization that conducts and funds breakthrough research to accelerate treatments for NF1-related plexiform and cutaneous neurofibromas.

  • Neuro-Oncology Fellowship

Our NF specialists are involved in training the next generation of physician-scientists and leaders in the field of neuro-oncology as part of this fellowship program.

Children's Tumor Foundation

The Children’s Tumor Foundation supports drug discovery and essential research to improve the lives of people with NF. The Johns Hopkins Comprehensive Neurofibromatosis Center was designated a “Comprehensive Center,” the highest level of clinical excellence, through the foundation’s NF Clinic Network. This distinction reflects our center’s high patient volumes across all forms of NF, including NF1, NF2-SWN and the other schwannomatoses, spanning all ages, as well as its robust on-site research and educational programs for the NF community. In addition, members of the center play key leadership roles in national and international NF clinical and research initiatives.
