Although we offer technical services for all users, some users may wish to use Facility resources themselves. To avoid the extra nuisance of coordinating schedules, users may wish to perform experiments on their own. It's a great educational opportunity. For such users, we provide lab group membership.
Membership allows both frequent and not-so-frequent users in the member lab group to save money through unsupervised self-service (see our rates). After users within a member lab group receive training from Facility staff, they can be certified, allowing them access to online reservations and subsequent use that piece of equipment on their own. Because of the diversity and complexity of the equipment, certification is very specific to individual users and individual instruments (certification is not transferable). Using an online reservations system, certified members can have 24-hour/day-7-day/week access to equipment on a self-service basis. Please refer to member rules for courteous use of the reservation system.
Membership requires a twelve-month commitment by the PI of a research group to pay a monthly membership fee. Included with membership are the first two hours of the group's self-use in each month and unlimited access to computer workstation with sophisticated image processing software. Every month, detailed statements are sent to the designated contact of the research group. With membership rates, we are proud that our microscopy rates are the most affordable (less than half) in the all of Baltimore.
