2006-12-08: Zeiss 510 Meta-2 emergency maintenance

Mike Delannoy: Zeiss 510 Meta-2 will be unavailable until further notice. The real-time controller (controls lasers and scan head) has suddenly stopped communicating with the host computer. In addition, the software (v3.5) needs maintenance upgrading, but is unrelated to the current emergency. Zeiss service has been called.

Scot Kuo: The Zeiss service technician should be done by the evening of 2006-12-12.

2006-11-10: Zeiss 510 Meta (both)

Derek Cox (Zeiss servicing): The problem with varying laser power (so-called "drifting pinhole") is due to re-using a prior acquisition template. Apparently, the template also remembers the prior position of the pinhole during the prior acquisition, hence clobbering any newer pinhole alignments. The problem is most dramatic the older the prior acquisition being reused.

Scot Kuo: As part of routine, monthly maintenance, Facility staff (typically Mike Delannoy) re-aligns the pinholes of both Zeiss 510 Metas.

2006-10-18: Zeiss 510 Meta-2

Scot Kuo & Elise Shumsky (Zeiss rep) : After calibrating the 20x objective, realized that the x & y dimensions are not square (i.e. different sizes).Since they differ by ~10%, it shouldn't be an issue for most users. A service call to Zeiss is needed to adjust the scanner attached to the microscope. The problem on the Zeiss 510 Meta-1 is more urgent.

2006-10-18: Zeiss 510 Meta-1

Alan Cheshire (Andrews Lab) : The green laser power is significantly low, perhaps a "drifting pinhole". A service call with Zeiss has been scheduled.

2006-08-30: 3i Scanning Disk Confocal

Scot Kuo:

  • The laser launch is not working correctly (<10% laser power). The unit has been shipped back to 3i.
  • The environmental chamber received, but not yet installed, pending the installation of the laser lauch system.
