Preparing a Patient for Prosthetic Treatment

Tissues need to be well-healed (typically 3-6 months, after radiation therapy)
Typically, prosthesis attached using adhesives
Can also be attached via magnets or bar/clip if implants placed
An acrylic substructure may be necessary (2 part prosthesis)
Prosthesis not permanently attached
(even osseointegrated implant cases require daily removal of prosthesis)
Needs to be recast/resculpted every 1-3 years
Can be lost, discolored by smoke, or damaged
Will need to do daily skin care/prosthesis maintenance
