Dr. Cody and his daughter Loren Shaiken have donated fifteen of these magnificent paintings to the Department of Art as Applied to Medicine. They are currently on display in the new Wilmer Ophthalmology Robert H. and Clarice Smith Building on the Johns Hopkins Medical Campus.
Dr. Cody and his three children, Loren, Andrea, and Graham, have donated his paintings to three separate institutions: The Department of Art as Applied to Medicine at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland; The Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation in Pittsburgh, PA; and The Sternberg Museum of the Fort Hays State University in Hays, KS.
Dr. Cody is also the author of four biographies including After Great Pain: The Inner Life of Emily Dickinson; The Life and Times of Wagner; Max Brödel: The Man Who Put Art in Medicine (co-authored with Ranice Crosby); and Ranice W. Crosby: A Tribute to Fifty Years of Teaching.

The book features the life histories of 18 famous flame painters,
their working style and full color images of their creatively crafted cars. Flame painting history and its practitioners have never been
fully recognized for the art that has always signified hot rods and motorcycles. The art form's legitimacy lies in the world of true
ornamentation-art for beauty, art with a purpose. Many of the stories are coming from first generation painters who initiated the art form
just 60 years ago. Colorful words-and-colorful ART-indeed!
In preparation for this book and since, Tim has flame painted over 400 miniature diecast cars and has authored over 2 dozen history
and how-to articles for a variety of rod, art and toy magazines.
TIM PHELPS: Community Outreach
Through a community outreach program between Johns Hopkins and a local inner city elementary school, Tim Phelps, Associate Professor and
Medical Illustrator has been volunteering his time to provide assistance to 18 kindergarten students. Since January of 2004, Tim has visited
Tench Tilghman School once a week for two hours assisting Mrs. Armstrong's students with their reading, writing and math skills.
This opportunity grew out of monthly visits with one of three 4th grade classes Tim participated in with other Hopkins professionals sharing
information on careers in healthcare in the Fall of 2003.
LEON SCHLOSSBERG scholarship fund established
Leon exemplified the province of the medical illustrator as he had learned from his teacher and mentor, Max Brödel. Brödel's unique technique and approach to visual presentation inspired Leon in each piece of work he created. In what is perhaps Leon's most famous work, The Johns Hopkins Atlas of Functional Anatomy, his dedication to the teaching ideals of Max Brödel is best reflected.
Leon Schlossberg, the consummate professional, considered his collaboration with some of Hopkin's finest surgical pioneers equal to his work with graduate students of medical illustration. He approached each venture with firm belief in the value of the illustration. In turn, he garnered the respect of friends, students, and colleagues the world over.
