Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP)

Events

To enhance the education of its students and foster a sense of community, the MD-PhD Program sponsors a series of events throughout the year . Click here to learn more about how these events contribute to integration in our curriculum, or scroll down to read more about specific events.

Events

Herlong Rounds: Monthly presentation by Hopkins faculty, most often MD-PhDs, of an interesting clinical teaching case from their practice. Intended primarily for students in research labs to maintain their diagnostic skills, but all students are invited to enjoy a free meal.
Hans Prochaska Memorial Lecture Series: Held annually at the Hopkins Club, the Prochanska Lecture Series is an opportunity for some of the brightest minds at Hopkins to share their knowledge and passion with MD-PhD students in an informal setting. Topics range from basic science to building a research career. The 2008 talk was given by Dr. Peter Devreotes, National Academy of Sciences member and Dept. of Cell Biology faculty member. There is, of course, a free dinner.
Weekly Interview Lunches and Dinners: Meet with the future of the Hopkins MD-PhD Program while enjoying, you guessed it, a free meal.
Annual Retreat: Once a year, students from all years spend several days at an off-campus venue learning about the work senior students have done in lab and getting to know one another.
White Coat Ceremony for First Years: First year students show off their shiny stethoscopes and whites to their families and faculty and staff over dinner at a Baltimore restaurant of the students' choosing.
Journal Club and Research-in-Progress: Ostensibly an opportunity for first and second year students to hone their presentation skills and generate new ideas for lab, but mostly an excuse to get lunch.
Softball League: Unfortunately, the beer is not free.
