Johns Hopkins takes great pride in the quality of its clinical training. The Johns Hopkins Hospital provides unparalleled training opportunities due to the quality of its physicians, students, and staff and the diversity of its patient population, which includes inner city Baltimore residents, regional patients referred to a tertiary care center, and complex and difficult cases brought in from all across the world. These may be some of the reasons the School of Medicine has been ranked first by residency directors for the past several years in the US News and World Report Rankings Survey (TM).
Beginning with the incoming class of 2008, the School of Medicine will be making a transition to a new curriculum, which will integrate lectures, discussions, and clinical correlations in an organ-based system. The new curriculum has been designed in conjunction with the new Armstrong Clinical Education Building, including brand new study spaces, administrative support, and anatomy laboratories (open Fall 2009). Innovations in the Hopkins curriculum include fully digital histology and microscopy, a brand new state-of-the-art simulation laboratory, and clinical skills training in the first year.
