Pathology Consultations

Pathology consultation is a collaborative function of the Department providing pathology research support to investigators throughout the institution. A major role of this group is the phenotypic assessment of genetically engineered mice (transgenic/knockout mice) developed as models for human diseases and for investigatation of the function of newly identified genes. Examples are provided below. For assistance with rodent phenotyping contact the Rodent Phenotyping Core.

The faculty has a range of expertise in a variety of organ/tissue systems. Pathology consultations are coordinated by Dr. Cory Brayton Dr. Brayton discusses the particular research questions with investigators and identifies the expertise required for the pathological studies. The investigator is then aligned with the most appropriate member of the pathology consultation group.

Comparative pathology faculty also advise investigators on experimental pathology procedures ranging from fixation and perfusion protocols, morphologic techniques including immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization, to advice on computerized image analysis to quantify gene expression in vivo.
