Veterinary Student Training Opportunities

Summer Internships in Pathology
Molecular and Comparative Pathobiology offers summer fellowships for veterinary students (two per year) to gain experience in Comparative Pathology. This a paid summer fellowship. Students perform necropsies, examine tissue sections under the microscope one-on-one with pathology faculty, and attend clinical pathology rounds to discuss pathology cases in the context of their clinical histories.

Summer students are also assigned small research projects that can be completed in the short time they are here. Competition for these summer positions is intense, and we have had many excellent students go on to advanced training in pathology after graduating from veterinary school.

Externship in Laboratory Animal Medicine
We also host several veterinary students each year for one-month unpaid externships in Laboratory Animal Medicine. These students assist the Laboratory Animal Medicine postdoctoral fellows and faculty with clinical cases, attend meetings of the Animal Care and Use Committee, and participate in clinical pathology rounds.

Externship in Comparative Pathology
We also host one or two veterinary students each year for one-month unpaid externships in comparative pathology. These students assist the pathology trainees and faculty with clinical cases and necropsies, attend meetings and seminars, and participate in clinical pathology rounds.
