Complementary Medicine

 

A method of health care that combines the therapies and philosophies of conventional medicine with those of alternative medicines, such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, and biofeedback.

This site is run by the NCCAM (National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine). It is government sponsored and the purpose of this site is to provide understanding of complementary and alternative medicine. Under the Health Information link, you can discover and understand complementary and alternative medicine. There are links to treatments and therapies that may be used as well as classification of what sort of treatment would be best for which disease. All sources are government oriented along with all clinical trials.

2) The Alternative Medicine Homepage.
This is a place where the unconventional, unorthodox, unproven, or alternative, complementary, innovative, integrative therapies meet. Given any disease that could cause death, wouldn't every person want to try all that was available to increase life span? This site deals with links connected to AIDS/HIV. It has a large database of other links that are interesting.

3) Alternative Medicine Home
As the website claims, this is the internet's largest database of alternative medical information. Under the therapies link, there is a large listing of types of alternative and complementary therapies from acupuncture to yoga. If you click on the individual link, you get a concise definition of what the type of therapy you have chosen is. There are further links below that to find out more information about that certain therapy.

4) The Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine
The purpose of this site and center is to contribute to the informed research and practice of complementary and alternative medicine and to foster the development of a more comprehensive and inclusive medical system. This site has a goal to serve as an internationally known and respected resource for information about complementary and alternative therapies, for a broad range of constituencies. It is good for linking to other websites that will give you the basic information you need. I am sure this is a reliable source to find out information on alternative and complementary medicine because it is sponsored by a well-known university.

5) Ask NOAH About: Complementary and Alternative Medicine
This is a site about the therapies that are by definition alternatives to, or outside the scope of, generally accepted medical standards of care. It serves to explain the effectiveness of some of these treatments that has been proven by scientific evidence, while limited or no research data exists to support other treatments. Again this is a site that is also a database to other sites. It mostly links to the number 1 site I have chosen.
