Union Members Ratify Contract

UNION MEMBERS RATIFY CONTRACT

Dear Colleagues:

We are delighted to inform you that members of the Service Employees International Union 1199E-DC have ratified their contract with The Johns Hopkins Hospital. This not only averts a strike, but provides a fair and equitable agreement for all.

The contract includes some first-time benefits for bargaining unit members, including shift differential, dependent tuition and a wage scale that recognizes seniority. These are benefits that have been enjoyed by non-bargaining unit members for years, and we're happy to extend them to bargaining unit members.

To our knowledge, we and Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center are among only a handful of organizations in the nation extending the dependent tuition benefit to union members -- part of our commitment to our employees and their families and to the future of our region.

On behalf of our patients, thanks to all of you for your commitment to The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Sincerely,

Ronald R. Peterson
