Young Lacrosse Players Faced Off Against Childhood Cancer

2010 Maryland State Lacrosse Shoot-Out Tournament U-13 Champions

Team Strong Hope won the 13th Annual Maryland Lax Shootout on February 15 at the Four Seasons Sports Complex in Hampstead, Maryland. Eleven boys from recreation and club lacrosse teams throughout the state came together to form “Team Strong Hope” raising awareness and more than $700 for our pediatric cancer program at Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. The players wore uniforms donated by Athletic Wear Direct and HandPrintz Custom Screen Printing & Embroidery provided the screen printing that read “Face Off Against Kids Cancer” with the Kimmel Cancer Center logo on them. SlickLids donated covers for the player’s lacrosse helmets with “Team Strong Hope” on them. Team members, coached by Bradd Atkinson and Gary Rowley, included Braden Atkinson, Gavin Rowley, Luke Hochheiser, Wes Mehl, Connor Glass, Alex Rode, Justin Wittfelt, Tyler Snyder, Luke Shilling, Mitch Gordon, Noah Syens. Some players collected money and made donations as well as businesses.  All proceeds went to the pediatrics unit at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. In addition to winning the tournament, Team Strong Hope also chose to present the championship trophy to the Cancer Center in honor of the pediatric cancer patients.
