Community Outreach: Yvette

Yvette knew she should have a mammogram, but with no health insurance, it just wasn’t possible.  Then she heard about a free breast cancer screening and education program offered at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center made possible through funding from the Avon Foundation.  Before receiving her screening mammogram and clinical breast exam, Yvette participated in a two-hour educational session with a breast cancer survivor and learned how to do breast self examination. She has returned once a year ever since for her screening mammogram.  She is proud to be setting an example for her daughter who has learned from Mom the importance of cancer screening.
