NPI: National Provider Identification

The NPI is here. The NPI is now. Are you using it?

Johns Hopkins HealthCare LLC (JHHC) is committed to our network providers. With your interests foremost in our thoughts, we implemented a National Provider Identifier Contingency Plan on May 23, 2007, requiring that all claims be submitted with a servicing NPI/Taxonomy code.

The Health Care Provider Taxonomy code set is a collection of unique alphanumeric codes, ten characters in length, and structured into three distinct "levels": Provider Type, Classification, and Area of Specialization.

The Health Care Provider Taxonomy code set allows a single provider (individual, group, or institution) to identify their specialty category. Providers may have more than one value associated to them. When determining which value(s) to associate with a provider, the user needs to review the requirements of the trading partner with which the value(s) are being used.

If you have additional questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact your Provider Relations Network Manager at 410-424-4400.
