Take a video tour of the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center campus’ Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center and meet some of the multidisciplinary team of physicians and staff members who provide comfort and individualized, world-class cancer care to our patients.
Because Kimmel Cancer Center clinicians and research scientists work closely together, new drugs and treatments developed in the laboratory are quickly transferred to the clinical setting, offering patients cutting edge therapeutic options. At the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center on the Johns Hopkins Bayview campus, we approach treatment in unique and cutting-edge ways, such as:
- Cancer surgery: The Johns Hopkins Bayview campus is a leader in offering cancer patients less invasive laparoscopic and robot-assisted procedures, which typically result in less blood loss and post-operative pain, a shorter recovery time and hospital stay, and a faster return to daily activities. Read more about one patient’s experience with this less invasive surgery for her kidney cancer and a uterine cancer patient’s experience with a robotic-assisted hysterectomy and novel lymph node mapping—a procedure first available at Hopkins Bayview. Minimally invasive surgery also helped a patient with esophageal cancer.
- Medical oncology: Medical oncology uses chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, biological therapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy to treat cancer. At the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center on the Johns Hopkins Bayview campus, we’ve created a comfortable setting where your family and friends can sit with you while you receive treatment and see your doctor. The facility features an on-site oncology pharmacist, comfortable reclining chairs and individual televisions.
- Radiation oncology: We use numerous innovative radiation treatments for cancer patients, including stereotactic body radiation therapy, or SBRT, which delivers highly focused radiation; image-guided radiation therapy; and motion management. All of these innovative treatments let us better target and reach the tumors with the focused treatment they need.
The Kimmel Cancer Center on the Johns Hopkins Bayview campus has a wide spectrum of specialty programs for adults coping with cancer, including new drug development. Additionally, those at high risk for developing lung, breast, ovarian, colon and other cancers, may seek information about early detection, prevention and genetic counseling through a comprehensive genetics service. Learn more about our specialty cancer centers and clinics here.
We also offer complete family and patient services that include cancer counseling services, a diagnostic and treatment planning center, survivors and palliative care programs, and two residencies for patients traveling from out-of-town to receive treatment.
