How to Prepare and What to Expect

A screening mammogram takes about 15 minutes, while a diagnostic study can take up to 45 minutes.

On the day of your appointment, you should wear a two-piece outfit. You'll be asked to undress from the waist up and wear a warm robe. Please do not use deodorant, powders or ointments, as these items can appear on your images and affect the quality.

If you're new to the Johns Hopkins Breast Center, but have previously had breast imaging done elsewhere, please have your previous images sent to our facility before your appointment date. Send your images to:

Johns Hopkins Breast Center
301 Mason Lord Drive, Suite 1300
Baltimore, MD 21224

Screening mammogram results will be sent to you and your doctor within a week of the exam. Diagnostic exam results will be discussed with you at the conclusion of the exam.

If you have any questions or concerns before your appointment, please contact lead clinical mammographer Peggy Marquez at 410-550-6700.
