The Diversity Council was formed in 2007 to bring together members from the Medical Center's administrative leadership team and other hospital champions to help create a more inclusive environment at Johns Hopkins Bayview. The 42-member council includes a demographic and occupational cross-section of Medical Center employees and medical staff, representing a wide variety of job functions, life experiences, cultural backgrounds and organizational affiliations. Four committees work on recruitment, leadership and employee development, communications and workforce training. Each committee is focused on identifying methods of integrating cultural competencies into current programs, such as patient care and safety, service excellence and employee engagement.
The Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center Diversity Council has taken a methodical approach in surveying our environment, identifying priorities and developing short and long term approaches. Each year, the group assembles to evaluate their progress, re-prioritize or establish new goals if necessary, and ensure the Diversity Council’s mission is aligned to the organization’s mission, vision and strategic objectives. However, there is one goal that never changes: to build a vibrant and inclusive workplace, where everyone feels engaged in the work of health care.
