Getting around:
By bus or train
The public transport system in the area is reasonable for commuting to and from work. There are buses and two types of trains (light rail and metro).
The Maryland Transport Administration homepage has more information on buses and trains in and around Baltimore.
By car
The MVA is the place to go for information on how to get a driving license . If you have a non US license you need to pass a drug and alcohol awareness test available through driving schools. The current charge is $35.
By plane
There are three airports in the area:
- Baltimore Airport: (Baltimore Washington International - BWI) approximately 12 miles from Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center. BWI is accessible by public transport:
- Take a MARC or AMTRAK train from Penn Station to Baltimore Airport Station, and there is a free shuttle bus to the airport.
- The Supershuttle (see below) also serves BWI, Call their reservations line on 1-800-BLUE VAN (258-3826)
- The Airport Shuttle also serves BWI 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! The Airport Shuttle offers door to door reservation service covering the State of Maryland. Arriving passenger’s flights are tracked and passengers are met at curbside. Vans carry 7 to 10 passengers. Corporate and charter programs are also available.

- MTA Bus Service - 17 Bus: The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) offers bus service from BWI Airport connecting to Parkway Center, Arundel Mills Mall, Airport 100 Park, and the Patapsco Light Rail Stop. - Dulles International Airport (IAD): approximately 60 miles from Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center. Taxi fare will be in the range of 60-70 dollars, and only the Washington Flyer cabs are allowed to operate *from* the airport. Dulles Airport is only accessible by public transport if you are desperate:
- Greyhound Buses run a service to and from Baltimore City. However, this costs $20 and only runs three times a day. If you are starting in Washington DC, or can get there relatively easily, take the Metro orange line to West Falls Church where the Washington Flyer bus takes you the rest of the way current prices are 9 dollars one way, 14 dollars return on the bus. - Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA), which is about 12 miles from Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center. Reagan is only accessible by public transport if you are desperate:
- If you are starting in Washington DC, or can get there relatively easily, take the Metro Yellow or Blue line directly to Reagan National Airport.
- An alternative way to get to the airport is the Supershuttle. 1-800-BLUE VAN (258-3826) or you can book online at Supershuttle.com. It serves Baltimore, Dulles International and Reagan National Airports.
