The JHMI Office of Cultural Affairs (OCA) presents an on-going series of free cultural events open to the entire JHMI community. Students, faculty and staff from all schools of the East Baltimore campus are invited and encouraged to experience the many opportunities presented by the OCA, including membership in the various musical societies and free performances presented throughout the academic year.

Since its creation in 1977, the OCA has expanded its programs to welcome the audience of the greater Baltimore community to share our cultural resources.

The OCA continues to develop ties with the Johns Hopkins University School of Arts and Sciences and Peabody by providing welcome performance opportunities for students and faculty alike.

Some of our annual highlights include:

Midday Concerts offer rare performances of chamber concerts, dance, and dramatic presentations.   These performances are held in the Hurd Hall of the Johns Hopkins Hospital at noon on Tuesdays throughout the academic year.

Chamber Music Society allows faculty and students who have musical interests to form chamber groups, receive lessons, and perform in concerts on the Medical Institutions campus under the direction of a professional musician.

Choral Society consists of students, staff, and faculty interested in singing.   The choir rehearses once a week on the Medical Institutions campus, and generally performs two concerts per year and is directed by a professional musician.

Literary Magazine of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, meme, is published each spring by the OCA. Student editors and contributors combine and recombine submissions of poetry, fiction, essays, and photography to cultivate a rare showcase for the creative arts at JHMI.

Film Series bring Hollywood and European films together to examine and explore specific issues and themes.   The films are introduced by incisive film critics.   Summer films are repertory tributes to noted directors, most recently Clint Eastwood, Ang Lee, and Robert Altman.
