Student researchers are notorious for losing themselves in their work, becoming isolated in the process. That’s where JHM&SA-funded organizations like the Johns Hopkins Postdoctoral Association come in. They are the driving force behind measures to improve the research environment and daily lives of postdoctoral fellows.
From orientations to spring mixers, the Postdoctoral Association helps fellows take advantage of the world outside of the lab, including those important social connections with other fellows that can make all the difference in their work and well-being.
| Officers of the Johns Hopkins Postdoctoral Association | “JHM&SA funding assists us in our mission of furthering fellows’ professional development and lessening that feeling of isolation,” says Simon Williams, Ph.D., vice president of the Johns Hopkins Postdoctoral Association. “That may simply come in the form of socializing with other postdocs, but could also be as crucial as improving writing and communication skills to win funding.”Each April, the JHM&SA also sponsors five $1,000 research prizes awarded to postgraduate fellows at Young Investigators’ Day, where faculty, students and staff gather to honor the best and brightest School of Medicine researchers.
